Warwickshire teenager scoops top prize in freight industry competition

A teenager from Warwickshire has won the top prize in a national careers competition, hosted by the Freight Transport Association (FTA) on its stand at the Skills Show 2017 and run in partnership with careers campaign Think Logistics. 

Ben Bardell won an iPad for achieving the highest score in the Think Logistics quiz, the campaign which aims to encourage more young people to consider careers in the logistics sector.  Ben, who is a Year 11 student at the St Thomas More Catholic School in Nuneaton, beat off several hundred other entrants to scoop the top prize. read more

Pall-Ex partnership gets stationery giants on the move

Leading logistics specialist Pall-Ex is set to transport over 80,000 pallets a year for Staples Solutions (Staples) following a new partnership with the workplace services and consumables giant.

The Rockingham-based firm will use Pall-Ex’s UK-wide distribution network during the three-year contract, assisting with Staples deliveries into UK merchants.

In order to accommodate the distribution, Pall-Ex has reconfigured a number of its double decker trailers into triple decker trailers, enabling it to better support Staples’ high volume requirements, which include stationery, office supplies, printed materials and business consumables. read more

Haydock Commercial Vehicles’ new Warrington premises inaugurated

On Thursday 22 March 2018, His Excellency Torbjörn Sohlström, Sweden’s Ambassador to the UK, visited Warrington to inaugurate Scania dealer Haydock Commercial Vehicle Limited’s new state-of-the-art service centre.  His Excellency was joined at the event by local transport operators, senior executives from Scania (Great Britain) Limited and representatives of the site developer, Carefoot Group plc.

The new development, which represents an investment of £6.3m and has been constructed in accordance with Scania’s global template for efficient and sustainable dealer premises, is located on a 3.25-acre green field siteadjacent to junction 8 of the M62 on Omega North, Warrington.  The facilities include an eight-bay workshop, four-bay environmental station, an extensive secure commercial vehicle parking area and will provide a full range of all-makes servicing, repair, maintenance and parts services together with new and used truck sales. read more
