Tyre management ‘top of the agenda’ for Vacu-Lug at this year’s CV Show

This April, Vacu-Lug will be informing visitors to The Commercial Vehicle Show how their fleet can benefit – economically, environmentally and legally – from the company’s tyre management service.

Vacu-Lug will be taking the opportunity to demonstrate to those responsible for fleet safety, compliance and efficiency exactly how selecting Vacu-Lug as their tyre management provider will significantly assist them in ensuring tyre targets are met and risks are eradicated.

On Vacu-Lug’s stand – which can be found in Hall 4 – the team will also be showcasing their mobile app, VMS Mobile, which the company released to the market in the later end of 2017. The first of its kind to be released in the industry, VMS Mobile has taken tyre management to the next level, by providing customers with remote access to their vehicle data. It summarises individual vehicle information held online within VMS Online (Vacu-Lug’s Management System) and Vacu-Lug say it is an “essential tool for vehicle monitoring and compliance control”. read more

Paragon enhances routing and scheduling software to support sustainable vehicle uptake

In response to the growing transition to electric and hybrid road transport, Paragon has enhanced its routing and scheduling software to address the potential challenges associated with planning for sustainable vehicles.

With a growing number of logistics operations now committed to low-emission, fuel-efficient technology, this latest development will enable transport planners to better utilise vehicles that have limited ranges.

“Green fleets are firmly on the radar of many logistics operations as they look to minimise environmental impact by moving away from vehicles powered by petrol and diesel, while also contending with emissions-based restrictions in many urban areas,” explains William Salter, Managing Director of Paragon Software Systems. “With this in mind, we have added functionality to our software solution to simplify the planning process for fleets that combine both sustainable and conventional vehicles.” read more

Michelin Tyres make tricky terrain easy for oil delivery company

Michelin’s X Works rugged tyre range is said to have transformed the fortunes of Scottish oil distributor Carnegie Fuels.

Typically, the Brechin-based company delivers to farms, industrial areas and residential properties that can often only be accessed on rocky off-road terrain – putting the 6×2 rigid tanker fleet’s fitments at an increased risk of stone cuts and ingress.

After testing a set of Michelin X Works D drive axle tyres and XZY3 steer and tag axle fitments on two of his 13 delivery vehicles, owner Kevin Carnegie admits the superior mileage he’s extracting from the tyres coupled with the lack of stone damage has far exceeded his expectations. read more

London freight companies celebrate as Grayling blocks punitive PCN charges

London’s freight operators are today (15th February) celebrating, after it was confirmed the Transport Secretary has blocked plans for a dramatic increase in Red Route Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs).  The penalties are imposed on vehicles which stop or park on some of the capital’s main arterial routes.

The Freight Transport Association (FTA), the UK’s leading body representing the logistics sector, led the fight to stop the increases, in an effort to keep the Capital trading.   It has welcomed the decision to scrap the plans, which it says would have caused havoc for London’s freight operators, unfairly punishing firms which move goods in and out of the city. read more
