Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan to retire

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced that Megan J. Brennan, Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer, is retiring after three decades with the company. Her retirement begins 31 January 2020.

“Megan Brennan is a devoted public servant who has helped lead the United States Postal Service though some very challenging circumstances,” said Robert M. Duncan, Chairman of the Board of Postal Governors. “The Governors greatly appreciate her leadership and devotion to the Postal Service.” read more

Australia Post invests in EVs to help with the Christmas rush

Australia Post has introduced 182 three-wheeled electric delivery vehicles (eDVs) to its Queensland fleet to help deliver more parcels.

The vehicles are equipped to carry over 100 small parcels and up to 1,200 letters and are part of a national deployment of 961 eDVs, which will be wheeled out by February 2020.

Australia Post General Manager Deliveries Queensland Angela Creedon said the new vehicles are a timely addition in the lead up to an expected record-breaking Christmas, as the business continues its support of e-commerce across the country. read more

Citroën UK has supplied a fleet of new Citroën Relay vans to City Electrical Factors (CEF) – the UK’s expert supplier of electrical products and services. CEF has added over 40 Relay L3H2 Enterprise panel vans to its nationwide delivery fleet. The vehicles are based at CEF stores around the country to cover local and long distance deliveries.

Citroën UK is proud to have supplied CEF with a fleet of Relay panel vans. The 42 new Citroën Relay vans will make deliveries to over 50,000 CEF customers – as well as deliveries for CEF’s online business – involving both urban and long-distance logistics. Humberside Fire & Rescue Service takes delivery of the UK’s first Scania L-series fire appliance

Humberside Fire & Rescue Service has become the first UK fire and rescue authority to introduce a new generation Scania L-series fire appliance into service.  Equipped with Scania’s all-new low entry cab, the vehicle carries an aerial ladder platform (ALP), which at 45-metres is the joint highest in the country.

To achieve Humberside’s overall on-road height requirement of 3.55-metres and provide maximum manoeuvrability and a high level of visibility for the driver, the vehicle has been specified with a low height Scania L 360 B6x2*4 rear-steer chassis.  Plated at 26-tonnes gross vehicle weight, the truck has Scania’s 360 horsepower, nine-litre engine and is fitted with Scania’s CL20L all-steel safety cab, which in addition to two seats provides a generous storage area behind the seats. read more

Changes to XPO board of directors

XPO Logistics, Inc. had appointed Aris Kekedjian to its board of directors.

Kekedjian has joined the board as an independent director of the company. XPO’s board now consists of nine directors, eight of whom are independent.

Bradley Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of XPO Logistics, said: “Aris has three decades of Fortune 20 experience, and has executed M&A transactions with a combined value of over $300 billion. His C-suite background adds a strong global component to the financial acumen of our board.” read more

Fifteenth man charged over UK’s biggest drug racket

Charges relate to the importation of £billions worth of drugs.

A man arrested as part of a National Crime Agency investigation into a drugs conspiracy believed to be worth billions of pounds has been charged with conspiracy to supply class A and class B drugs.

Sean Sherwood (21/12/82) of Railway Street, Hindley, Wigan, was charged, Friday 11 October, with two counts of conspiracy to import class A and two counts of conspiracy to import Class B drugs. He has been remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court today. He is the fifteenth man to be charged. read more

Amazon Expands in Illinois

Amazon has revealed plans to open a fulfilment centre in Channahon, Illinois, creating more than 500 full-time jobs.

Employees at the more than one million-square-foot fulfilment centre will pick, pack and ship large customer items, such as sports equipment, patio furniture, fishing rods, pet food, kayaks, bicycles, and larger household goods. Amazon currently employs more than 11,000 full-time associates throughout the state of Illinois.

“Illinois is a great place to do business and we are excited to continue our growth and investment in the state with our new fulfilment centre in Channahon,” said Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s Vice President of Global Customer Fulfilment. “Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $4 billion in the state through its local fulfilment centre and cloud infrastructure, research facilities, and compensation to thousands of employees in the state. We are excited to create more than 500 new full-time jobs, in addition to the 11,000 current employees across the state, who receive industry-leading pay and benefits starting on day one.” read more

Leading specialist Rolfo has unveiled a new concept in car transporter bodywork which is based on a Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor unit supplied by Dealer Midlands Truck & Van, and sets new standards for productivity, safety, and build quality.

The Italian manufacturer presented its innovative EGO 539 model to prospective UK customers for the first time, at Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ Wentworth Park customer experience centre, in South Yorkshire. The rig is capable of transporting 12 cars, or mixed loadings with large vehicles. read more

Get business ready for Brexit, RHA urges Government

The Road Haulage Association has urged the Government to put all its energy into getting hauliers and traders ready for Brexit.

The call comes as the transport minister announced that ‘no-deal’ lorry queue contingency plans have been stepped up in Kent.

RHA chief executive, Richard Burnett is satisfied that Operation Brock will be ready in time but insists that the Government must focus on getting hauliers and traders prepared for Brexit as quickly as possible.
