Transdek UK is highlighting the environmental and cost saving benefits of its innovative DUET urban double deck trailers on stand V09 at the third annual Freight in the City Expo, Alexandra Palace, London, on 7 November 2017.
With the continuing pressure on the UK’s supply chain infrastructure, particularly in major towns and cities, Transdek will be showcasing how its patented urban trailers can carry up to 107% more freight than standard 18 tonne and 70% more than 26 tonne rigid trucks to deliver a sustainable last mile distribution solution.
Transdek will be exhibiting two 10.6 metre DUETs; an ambient trailer that is ideal for a wide range of city centre retail operations along with a multi-temperature DUET, which includes a number of specialist quiet features suited for out of hours deliveries in the convenience and grocery retail sectors.
The trailers offer up to 52% mileage savings on town and city centre deliveries, along with a tighter turning circle and better manoeuvrability than rigids without steering axles, providing unrivalled advantages for urban road freight.
Transdek’s DUET trailers are custom built for the urban environment, incorporating an ultra low chassis that allows an overall height of 4.3 metres. The vehicles’ patented V-Glide sash type rear doors are designed to provide extra safety for drivers, loaders and passing traffic during kerbside unloading, without impacting on internal load space.
Commenting on the environmental challenges facing Britain and its major cities, Mark Adams, FCILT, Managing Director at Transdek, says: “With a recent UN report highlighting air pollution problems across the UK, which causes around 40,000 early deaths a year in Britain, and places such as London, Birmingham, Leeds and Bournemouth having illegal levels of nitrogen dioxide emitted by diesel vehicles, there is so much more that can be done to reduce congestion.
“As a company we are committed to developing supply chain solutions that help drive down the number of deliveries required in urban centres and provide a sustainable distribution model. We feel strongly that double deck trailers designed for the urban environment can make a significant impact on cutting the number of vehicles in towns and cities thereby slashing emissions.
“Added to this it makes economic sense too. Travel and traffic data company INRIX reports that traffic congestion cost the UK over £30 billion in 2016. We’re the fourth most congested developed country in the world and need to address this problem urgently as there are clear economic as well as health benefits.
“As part of our efforts to improve the supply chain we’re carrying out a number of trials with some of Britain’s leading retailers that demonstrate our trailer designs can carry significantly more load. We’re calling on more companies to look at how they can cut deliveries through double deck innovation.”
A team of experts from Transdek will be available on stand V09 to provide an insight into how fixed double deck loading in urban environments can deliver significant supply chain improvements, cutting congestion and emissions, and provide full details of the company’s award winning solutions.
