MAN delivers record 1,000th vehicle to construction giants

Leading truck manufacturer MAN Truck & Bus UK is delivering its 1000th vehicle to Saint-Gobain the parent company of Jewson.

The truck is being decorated in unique livery to mark its position as the 1,000th addition to the Jewson fleet of MANs.

MAN is also celebrating the milestone deal by presenting Ian Berrill, transport director of Saint-Gobain, with a model of the TGM 18.250 4×2 BB on the MAN stand at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham.

Mercedes-Benz launches ‘direct vision’ Econic tractor concept

A heightened focus on the protection of vulnerable road users in Britain’s towns and cities has spurred Mercedes-Benz to unveil a prototype urban tractor unit based on its market-leading, low-entry Econic chassis.

The concept shares many of the key attributes that have enabled Mercedes-Benz to win a string of high-profile orders for rigid versions of the Econic from safety-conscious construction operators and refrigerated distribution specialists.

Those attributes include a deep, panoramic windscreen and full-height glazed passenger door, and a low seating position which allows the driver to make direct eye contact with cyclists and pedestrians at junctions and in traffic. read more

Scania to showcase its Next Generation Trucks and advanced technology at FPS Expo 2017

Scania will be displaying a six-wheel tractor unit from its Next Generation Truck range on its stand, number 144, at FPS Expo 2017 (Liverpool Exhibition Centre, 10-11 May 2017).  In addition, the company will be showcasing the range of advanced technology and solutions it offers in support of both its next generation and current model ranges.

The truck on display will be an R 450 6×2/2 lifting mid-axle model equipped with Scania’s 450 horsepower Euro 6 engine, which has repeatedly broken fuel records in independent press tests conducted throughout Europe.   As an all new model, Next Generation R-series Scania trucks have been redesigned from the ground up and represent today’s state-of-the-art commercial vehicle.  The vehicle on display has Scania’s Highline cab, the largest option in the new model range.  This features a range of innovative developments, including improved visibility, extended storage options and optional rollover curtain airbags integrated into the cab. read more

Maersk Line and Hamburg Süd sale and purchase agreement approved

On 1 December 2016, Maersk Line announced its intention to acquire Hamburg Süd, the German container shipping line, and on 14 March 2017, Maersk Line announced the signing of a sale and purchase agreement with the Oetker Group, owner of Hamburg Süd.

Today, the sale and purchase agreement for Maersk Line’s acquisition of Hamburg Süd was approved by the boards of Maersk Line and the Oetker Group. The acquisition still remains subject to regulatory approvals.

Maersk Line will acquire Hamburg Süd for EUR 3.7 billion on a cash and debt-free basis. Maersk Line will finance the acquisition through a syndicated loan facility. read more

Volvo Trucks is rolling out a fantastic line-up for Truckfest Peterborough this weekend. Sharing the top of the bill is the record-breaking ‘Iron Knight’ – a super custom-engineered truck that boasts a 2400hp version of Volvo’s D13K 13-litre engine which produces some 6000Nm of torque.By comparison, the D16K, 16-litre engine in the ‘Ailsa’ Edition tractor unit, the most powerful series production truck, develops 3550Nm of torque and 750hp.  Amazingly, the ‘Iron Knight’ delivers its phenomenal power through Volvo’s series-built, super slick shifting I-Shift Dual Clutch.

The celebration of the company’s golden anniversary provides the overarching theme for the Volvo Trucks stand this year with tons of great activities and 50th Anniversary branded shopping opportunities for all the family.

Weighing in at just 4.5 tonnes, the ‘Iron Knight’ is capable of blasting to 60mph in 4.6 seconds and running a standing 1000 metres in 21.29 seconds and 105mph. During the record attempt, it topped out at 172mph. read more

Quick-fire livery change maximises exposure for major Müllerlight campaign

Müller has rapidly re-vamped the livery of 96 of its UK trailer fleet to promote a major new Müllerlight campaign using Traxx®, a versatile quick-change frame and banner system that makes commercial vehicles a viable advertising tool.

The aluminium Traxx frames were originally fitted to the 13.6 metre Gray & Adams trailers in 2015 by vehicle graphics specialist RGVA. The system allows high definition printed banners to be applied to the side of trailers in a matter of minutes. This provides a cost-effective way to maximise each trailer’s promotional potential, without needing to apply traditional vinyl livery across the entire vehicle. read more

IVECO delivers the goods for Elddis Transport with new Eurocargo order

Elddis Transport has reintroduced IVECO to its fleet with the delivery of two 18-tonne Eurocargo rigids, after a seed vehicle supplied for three months by local dealer North East Truck & Van (NETV) impressed the County Durham-based distribution firm.

The arrivals join the Transport Association member’s 160-strong fleet of trucks and have been mounted with curtainside bodies built by Dependable Bodies in Gateshead – a new supplier to Elddis Transport. They also feature 1,500kg tail-lifts and are fitted with a surround camera system to aid road safety and manoeuvring. read more
