Aston Barclay completes replacement of Scania and Rolfo Pegasus transporter fleet

Aston Barclay Group has completed the replacement of its entire transporter fleet after the final Scania P410 trucks, equipped with custom-built Pegasus trailers from Rolfo, arrived at its Chelmsford centre.

The leading national independent vehicle remarketing group has invested nearly half a million pounds in the two new transporters, both arriving with Rolfo’s custom-built nine-car Pegasus trailers that increases the Group’s capacity in vehicle transportation.

This significant investment in upgrading the group’s truck fleet underpins Aston Barclay’s long-term commitment to improving efficiency of its vehicle collection and delivery process to deliver an exceptional service. Overall load flexibility is also improved, with the Pegasus trailers greatly reducing loading and unloading times at customer locations. read more

Hermes Inspires Innovators Of Tomorrow At First Hackathon

The UK’s next generation of innovators have gone head-to-head to create a range of exciting solutions that could enrich the home delivery industry at a Hackathon organised by Hermes, the consumer delivery specialist. A multi-platform live chat application and an enhanced GPS tracking solution designed to drive down fuel consumption were among ideas concocted by students from Leeds Beckett University and judged by a panel of experts including a member of Google’s technical team.

Hermes, who delivers parcels on behalf of 80% of the UK’s leading retailers and etailers, including John Lewis, Next and Arcadia Group, staged the event alongside the University in order to encourage the innovators of tomorrow to bring pioneering ideas to life. To facilitate this, Hermes granted the students special access to its sophisticated development portal and the company’s APIs (Application Program Interfaces). read more

Red Bull Racing take three additional Renault Range T Highs

The Red Bull International Motorsports team continues its collaboration with Renault Trucks with the provision of three additional Range T520 Highs to the Austrian Formula One team, based in Milton Keynes. These vehicles bring the total number of Renault Range Ts in the team to 12 and will help the team with its logistics operations.

Seven of these trucks are an integral part of Red Bull Racing’s logistics network and travel across Europe from one F1 Grand Prix to another. They carry the containers that hold the entire Red Bull Tree House, the extended pit stop garage for the Formula One team. read more

David Thomson receives prestigious award for innovative haulier booking system

Forth Ports’ David Thomson has been presented with the prestigious Worshipful Company of Carmen’s Environmental Award. The award was presented to David at the annual awards dinner this week which recognises significant achievements, contributions and innovation of individuals, companies and the armed forces.

David, who is the Group IT Project Manager for Forth Ports, was presented with the award for the innovative system developed for haulier customers. The Vehicle Booking System (VBS) system is the UK’s first fully integrated mobile app and currently available for use by London Container Terminal’s hauliers. The system is complementary to a full desktop version of the VBS which is available over the internet, with the Mobile App being particularly suited to the smaller haulier, allowing the creation, moving of bookings, as well as checking the status of the containers while on the move via their mobile phone or iPad, and as a consequence overall assisting in minimising wasted journeys; reducing queues at the terminal and contributing to reducing air pollution. read more
